New Signee eyes a Buccaneers debut

Orlando Pirates' latest recruit Souaibou Marou is on the verge of making his Pirates debut on Saturday when the Soweto giants take on All Stars FC in the Nedbank Cup last 32.

The Cameroonian forward joined Pirates from Cameroon giants Coton Sport on a two and a half year deal last month and with a wealth of experience behind his name, Marou won the Cameroonian men's Ballon d'Or for 2022 as the best Cameroonian footballer of the year.

Marou who also featured in 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup for Cameroon finally received his work permit three weeks after penning a deal with the Buccaneers.

The 22 year has also been training with the Pirates first team ever since he signed the contract and with the Nedbank Cup on the horizon, Jose Riviero is more likely to rotate the squad and give the likes of Marou a chance to showcase their talent.

With Orlando Pirates having recently dealt with a blow of the departure of forwards coach Scott Chickelday, Riviero will hope that doesn't get to affect the team and return to their poor performance in front of goal before Chickelday arrived.

Marou who is a force to be reckoned with upfront for the Buccaneers will look to impress should he be given the opportunity to be in the starting lineup at the Bidvest Stadium.

Meanwhile Pirates will be without captain Innocent Maela due to suspension after receiving his fourth yellow card during the team's 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns over the past weekend.
