87 protesters across the country have been arrested so far by law enforcement officials under the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS). This is following what has been described as by the structure as "public violence related offences."

Following various plans by South Africa's security cluster to ensure that the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF)'s planned National Shutdown takes place peacefully and poses no risk to become a repeat of the 2021 July Unrest, law enforcement agencies have since been deployed which has seen the arrest of some civilians.

Since the beginning of the deployment of Natjoints together with the respective Provjoints, as well as the South African National Defence Force,  87 people have since been arrested as reported earlier today by Natjoints, with 41 from Gauteng,  29 in North West and 15 in Free State.

Among those arrested in Gauteng include the undisclosed number of students who were arrested last night in Braamfontein, ahead of the planned shutdown.

Apart from the arrests, Natjoints expressed that at least 24 300 tyres had been confiscated by law enforcement agencies, which are alleged to have been strategically placed to commit criminal activity.

Most of these tyres were seized in the Western Cape,Free State, and Gauteng.

In a statement, Natjoints emphasised that law enforcement is on high alert and will continue to protect protesters and those who wish to not protest, adding that they will combat any acts of criminality and maintain public order.

"The Natjoints will not allow and tolerate any forms of lawlessness and acts of criminality. Anyone found to be contravening the law will be dealt with accordingly."

This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
