Must win clash for Bafana Bafana in Monrovia

After a shocking 2-2 draw against Liberia in the AFCON qualifier at the Orlando Stadium on Friday night, Bafana Bafana will have to defeat the West African side on Tuesday night to keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations alive.

Despite giving away the 2-0 lead in the second half, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is optimistic that his side will win on Tuesday night in Monrovia.

The Belgian coach who stormed out of the match on Friday night hinted that he would make some changes in the starting line-up for the encounter on Tuesday in a bid to get the much needed victory.

"There will be some changes that's for sure and I hope that we can compete with this team physically, if we make the same mistake where the power is less than Liberia, we will have problems," Broos said.

Bafana Bafana who have touched down in Liberia during the late hours of Sunday evening will know that a defeat will lead them to failure of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time in a row however, Broos believes his side will be able to redeem themselves.

"I hope we will not make the same mistake like we did on Friday because it was very clear that we were the better team, if we can refill our batteries for the match on Tuesday we can come back with a positive result," the Belgian mentor said.

Meanwhile the recently crowned People's Choice Award recipient at the 16th annual SA Sport Awards Themba Zwane has also backed Bafana Bafana to go for glory in Liberia.

Zwane insists the team is going for the win and in order for that to happen they will have to push themselves.

"I think we are positive and encouraged to push ourselves to get the victory, we will try to take our chances and convert them," Zwane added.

With Bafana Bafana having more experienced players on paper heading into the clash on Tuesday, football fans and South Africans alike would fancy Broos' charges to claim the maximum points but it won't be easy against a Liberian side full of confidence.

Kick-off at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex is at 18:00 South African time.
