Mbule rescues a point for Sundowns

In a game of two halves Mamelodi Sundowns had to wait for the second half to find their rhythm and rescue a point against Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday night.

A 73rd minute Sipho Mbule header brought Sundowns back into the encounter after a flurry of chances in the second half going either off target or being saved by Golden Arrows goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana.

Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena made several changes to the squad that played 0-0 against Swallows FC last weekend, with Abubeker Nasir and Cassius Mailula leading the attack.

However, the duo was wasteful in front of goal as they were both denied by Mlungwana, while also squandering a few chances.

Earlier on in the first half Ryan Moon scored a beauty of a goal to give Arrows the lead in the 23rd minute as Abafana Bes'thende made life uncomfortable for the champions in the first half.

Despite a poor first half showing from Sundowns, Mokwena was pleased with how his players reacted and came back to life in the second 45 minutes.

"We obviously had to iron out a couple of things during the halftime team talk and I am happy with how we came back in the second half, completely dominant and I enjoyed that a lot.

"The goal is to always win and go home with the maximum points but it wasn't to be and we don't like not winning however, we go again and try in the next match, so congratulations to the team for a well deserved point," Mokwena said during his post match interview.

The draw extends Sundowns' winless run to three matches having played two consecutive draws before the Arrows match.

Masandawana will now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals as they prepare to battle with Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday night.
