Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi has revealed that striker Kermit Erasmus is one of the key players that will help the club flourish in the upcoming season.

Lekgwathi described Erasmus as someone that has brought depth into the squad and has also helped in influencing a positive mindset to the team both on and off the pitch.

Having re-joined Pirates in September 2022 from Mamelodi Sundowns, Erasmus inspired the Sea Robbers to the MTN 8 and Nedbank Cup triumphs playing a pivotal role en route to the finals of both competitions.

"Erasmus has brought depth into the team because the team needed a balance of senior players and youngsters and we needed someone like Kermit to come in and provide that balance.

If you look at the striking department, all of them were young or inexperienced and they needed someone to guide them and I think Kermit guided them very well," Lekgwathi said.

The former Pirates captain who won the 2013/14 Nedbank Cup crown alongside Erasmus furthermore alluded that the latter was also instrumental in helping Terrence Dzvukamanja find his form.

"Terrence Dzvukamanja ended the season on a high note scoring goals and helping the side get positive results and you could see that Kermit was complimenting him so well.

I was extremely happy to see him getting game-time again and working very hard and this is what we spoke about when I met with him to say we needed someone like him at Pirates," Lekgwathi added.

Meanwhile, ahead of the upcoming 2023/24 season, Pirates will head to Spain for a pre-season camp between the 9th and 20th of July 2023.
