Mammila who replaced Daine Klate last year September started really well as the coach of the side guiding the team to four straight league wins and becoming the first coach in the club's history to achieve that feat.

The 4 matches winning run seemed to be just a fluke as Chippa started to be inconsistent after those 4 matches, losing and drawing more than getting the much needed 3 points in their DSTV Premiership matches.

As a consequence, the Chilly Boys have dropped down the league table and are now just sitting three points above the relegation/promotion playoff spot, level on 24 points with Swallows FC.

Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to the Dube Birds was the second loss to Swallows under Mammila and he had indicated after the match that he would step aside if he fails to beat AmaZulu on Sunday.

However, Chippa United's chairman Chippa Mpengesi has decided to take matters into his own hands and remove Mammila before the ship sinks even more deeper, opting to bring in Kurt Lentjies who is a familiar foe in Chippa's coaching role.

Lentjies will be in charge of the team for the remainder of the season as an interim coach and his duty is simply to save Chippa from being relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship as his fight for survival in the DSTV Premiership commences with AmaZulu on Sunday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

It’s the second time that Lentjies takes over as interim coach after guiding the club to safety last season when Gavin Hunt was initially placed on “special leave” before departing permanently.

Meanwhile Mammila joins a long-list of coaches among them being the likes of Gavin Hunt, Dan Malesela, Manqoba Mngqithi, Ernst Middendorp and Kosta Papic who have all been shown the door by Chippa.
