Kagiso Rabada: The Young Cricket Sensation

By Neo Poho

Kagiso Rabada is a name that is quickly making its way into the world of cricket, the South African international cricketer who is a right arm fast bowler, has made a mark in all formats of the game and I believe there’s more we are yet to see from him.

Rabada made his Proteas test debut in November 2015 and has since become a crucial player in the national team taking over 250 wickets in his illustrious Test career at an average of 22,85.

Rabada's meteoric rise in the world of cricket is attributed to his exceptional skill and natural talent.

He is known for his speed, accuracy, and ability to swing the ball both ways and his strong presence on the field has earned him praise from cricketing legends and fans alike.

His rise to the top has seen him rub shoulders with the likes of some Proteas greats like Dale Steyn and Morné Morkel and fortunately enough it is that type of influence that has catapulted Rabada into the wicket taking machine he is today.

Becoming the first cricketer to win six awards at the Cricket South Africa annual awards ceremony in 2016 was no fluke as that demonstrated the impact Rabada has in the South African team.

It goes without saying that with the current form and rate Rabada is moving with, he might just surpass Steyn as South Africa’s leading wicket-taker.

With Rabada becoming the youngest bowler to take 150 wickets in Test matches in 2018, I believe that was a remarkable achievement for a player who had just started his career.

For the Proteas to keep on flourishing in their bowling department, Rabada is the perfect catalyst to guide and set an example for bowlers like Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje who are gradually becoming a force to be reckoned with too.

Rabada's recent performance in the Test match against West Indies was nothing short of outstanding.

He took eight wickets in the match and went on to claim his 13th five wicket haul in the process which helped South Africa win by an impressive 87 runs.

I certainly believe the Proteas would have not been able to deal with the sustained confidence West Indies were showing in their run-chase if Rabada was not brought back into the attack, that proving justice to the fact that he is a player that can overcome pressure and step up in big occasions.

Rabada’s continuous aggressive bowling style and ability to take wickets at crucial moments of the game will make him a key player in the South African team for quite some time.

Aside from his impressive skills on the field, Rabada is also known for his dedication and work ethic, he puts in hours of practice every day to perfect his craft and maintain his fitness levels.

His commitment to the sport has earned him the respect of his teammates and fans alike that is why Rabada is a rising star in the world of cricket, and his performance on the field is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication.

With many years of cricket ahead of him, he is sure to continue making waves in the sport and contributing to the success of the South African team.
