Jose Riveiro salutes Pirates' fans

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro is pleased with the way the Buccaneers' fans have been supporting the club during the 2022/23 DSTV Premiership season.

Pirates had their fans out in numbers during their 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United in the DStv Premiership clash over the past weekend as it was the Buccaneers' last home game of the 2022/23 season.

Despite the draw seeing Pirates drop crucial points in the race to finish second on the log standings, Riveiro was pleased with the turnout at the venue, known as ‘Esigodini sika Maminzela’.

Just after the match, the Spaniard expressed his acknowledgment and gratitude to the Orlando Pirates supporters.

"For the ones who came to the stadium, I say thank you for the support, it has been such an incredible experience for me to be part of the games here, a historic place like Orlando Stadium.

It is a privilege for me and the players to have the opportunity to work for the club, knowing the number of people who are behind us and I must say it is very special," Riveiro said.

With the Buccaneers gradually becoming a force to be reckoned with in the DStv Premiership under the guidance of Riveiro, the 47 year old furthermore alluded that he hopes to see the Orlando Stadium getting packed to capacity in the next couple of seasons, starting with next season.

"When we play at the Orlando Stadium, the regular fans that attend every game, we appreciate their support and sometimes they are critical because they tend to motivate us so we are grateful and we have to accept it because they want to see good football and results.

What I would also love to see is the stadium packed to full capacity when we play important games as a club, our fans understand that we need them and it was very nice the way they helped us during the season," Riveiro added.

Pirates will now head to KZN for a date with AmaZulu in their last DStv Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday the 20th of May hoping to collect all the three points in order to qualify for the CAF Champions League next season.

Immediately after the trip to KZN, the Sea Robbers will return back to Gauteng to prepare for the Nedbank Cup final against Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld on the 27th of May.
