"I love it here" - Brandon Peterson

Man of the moment between the posts at Kaizer Chiefs Brandon Peterson has expressed his delight at playing for Kaizer Chiefs and being on such a good form lately.

Peterson who hails from the Ajax Cape Town development team during his youth career has grabbed the opportunity of playing for Chiefs with both hands and seeks to do more with the opportunity granted him.

During Chiefs' media day on Thursday afternoon, Peterson said that he believes he has achieved his current position at Chiefs due to the fact that he has worked hard but most importantly he believes this is the right time.

"Well it has been a while and I have been waiting to get this opportunity but I think what's important for me was that I needed to be ready, I couldn't have just been thrown in without the right preparation," Peterson said.

The lanky goalkeeper has been on a good run of three clean sheets so far and with Chiefs taking on Golden Arrows on Sunday, Peterson believes that the team will add a fourth clean, "Well that is the tradition here at Chiefs, we always seek to keep clean sheets because of the hard work we put in during our training sessions"

Peterson who is more likely to step in the shoes of Itumleng Khune as a permanent Chiefs number one goalkeeper once the veteran hangs his gloves, has expressed his respect for Khune citing that the former Mzansi's number one has really played a pivotal role in his career at Chiefs.

"The main thing that I have learned from Khune is consistency, I mean he has been in the game for the past two decades and it goes without saying that he is a legend, so getting to rub shoulders with a player like that everyday is a blessing and I have certainly learned a lot from being confident as a goalkeeper and always striving to do well, in a nutshell Khune is a winner and I will always cherish the advice he always gives me," Peterson added.

The former Bidvest Wits player also confirmed his desire to play in Europe and for the national team too, "Obviously it is every professional football player's desire to play for their national team, so I believe with the current form and more consistency while staying fit and injury free then just maybe I might get the call up and showcase my talent," Peterson alluded.

The 28 year old joined Amakhosi in 2021 and with his contract ending in 2024, it goes without saying that he might renew it.

"My contract ends in 2024 and if they still want me here then we will get to renew it, I mean I love it here, playing for Kaizer Chiefs is one of the biggest achievements any football player desires so I love it, I mean Chiefs has one of the best facilities in the country and so far they have treated me well here so I am happy and I will continue on giving my best at all times however, it is also my desire to play in Europe and I believe in due time that will happen," said Peterson.

With the mood at Amakhosi being that of joy and confidence, Peterson has also played a vital role in ensuring that he uplifts his teammates and also get to influence them with a positive mindset ahead of the game against Arrows on Sunday.

"My role is always to uplift, as a goalkeeper as a team player I always uplift everyone and motivate everyone too, the greatest thing you can ever do before going into a match is to always feel confident and I am glad I have been able to guide a couple of youngsters in the right direction here at Chiefs," Peterson concluded.

Amakhosi take on Golden Arrows on Sunday in the DSTV Premiership at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and Peterson will hope that his good run between the posts will earn him another starting XI call for the Glamour Boys.
