"I am a disciplinarian" - Arthur Zwane

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane insists that discipline is one of the key factors behind success especially for a football player.

This comes after many of the Kaizer Chiefs development players saw themselves get promoted to the senior team of Amakhosi under the guidance of Zwane.

Zwane has helped youngsters like Mduduzi Shabalala, Samkelo Zwane, Happy Mashiane, Siyabonga Ngezana and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo to nurture their talents at Amakhosi.

Under the development and mentorship of Zwane, Amakhosi has seen one of their academy graduates, Njabulo Blom make his way to MLS side St. Louis City at just the tender age of 22 years.

With the Amakhosi coach also trying to build a fresh and rejuvenated Chiefs side in his first season at the helm, the 49 year old has revealed one of the reasons why the youngsters have flourished.

"I am simply a disciplinarian and I don't get to tolerate nonsense, lack of discipline can break and even kill a footballer, when you are a professional footballer you ought to be disciplined and it starts at a very young age.

At the same time, I give credit where it's due and also make sure they do the right things, so it all comes down to one thing and that is discipline because if you want to do big things in life and be respected, you have to be disciplined," Zwane said.

In the midst of getting all the credit for how the youngsters have handled the pressure in the senior ranks of Amakhosi, Zwane also hailed Reeve Frosler at how he was so disciplined in making sure he recovers from a lengthy injury layoff.

"You can see the discipline in the camp rubs off each other for instance the Reeve situation, he was out of action for a very long time but now when you look at him, he is back to his best and that's because he was disciplined enough to recover and now that he has recovered he is disciplined enough to give his best", Zwane added.

The 49 year old coach will hope the discipline continues till the end of the season as his side need to overcome Orlando Pirates and potentially Stellenbosch FC or Sekhukhune United to win the Nedbank Cup.

Moreover, Zwane will also hope the discipline carries over to the DSTV Premiership as Amakhosi are still in contention for the CAF Champions League spot.

Chiefs next face Sekhukhune United in the DSTV Premiership on Sunday the 23rd of April 2023 at the Peter Mokaba stadium.
