Helmi Gueldich joins Orlando Pirates as a strength and conditioning coach

Former Yanga SC strength and conditioning coach Helmi Gueldich has joined Orlando Pirates.

Gueldich who was part of the technical staff Nasreddine Nabi was aiming to keep when landing a new job at Kaizer Chiefs before the 2023/24 season began brings a wealth of experience and expertise into Pirates' technical team.

Upon his arrival at the Sea Robbers, Pirates released a statement confirming the appointment of Gueldich as the Soweto giants also prepare for continental football.

"Orlando Pirates is pleased to announce the appointment of Helmi Gueldich as a conditioning coach, Gueldich brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise having recently worked as the strength and conditioning coach for Tanzanian League Champions, Yanga FC.

Notably, Gueldich is not only a seasoned professional but also a former player, holding a Ph.D. in exercise science, his wealth of knowledge and background will be a valuable asset to the team and this appointment couldn’t come at a more crucial time, as the Buccaneers are gearing up to compete in five challenging competitions this season.

The demanding schedule makes it imperative that the players remain consistently available for selection and Gueldich will be collaborating closely with Michel Bellver, forming a dynamic partnership that is poised to elevate Jose Riveiro’s technical team to new heights," the statement read.

Gueldich replaces Stephen Plummer at Pirates, who had been working at the club since 2015 but left in June to rejoin the Blue Bulls.

Pirates are back in action on Saturday evening in the second MTN 8 quarter-final against Sekhukhune United at the Orlando Stadium.
