Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi took the time to visit the homes of the affected families who lost their children in what has since been described as a "gruesome murder". Lesufi was accompanied by the MECs of Education and Community Safety, Matome Chiloane and Faith Mazibuko.

It is understood that the late children were learners at the Isiseko Primary School in Soweto and were the ages five and six.

In a statement, the Gauteng Provicial Government expressed that reports show that a district office in Soweto received a message yesterday confirming the kiddnapping and murder of the students.

The two deceased learners are alleged to have been abducted with another learner in the early hours of Wednesday, where they were killed, and the third survived.

Speaking to the media after his visit, the premier expressed his disappointment, adding that what has happened should not be tolerated.

"We [government] are trying to establish the reasons behind this incident and we have no choice but to unleash state resources that we have at our disposal to ensure that the police do everything in their powers to understand why these people are behaving like this"- Panyaza Lesufi

Lesufi added that there is a level of lawlessness within the community, emphasising the community members' concern that the incident is not the first of its kind.

He further thanked the community patrollers who he said were able to discover the two bodies of the children with limited resources, adding that government has committed to support the affected families.
