In October the Premier of Gauteng David Makhura relieved Dr Bandile Masuku from his positions as Gauteng Health MEC,  following corruption allegations related to  the personal protective equipment tender saga.  The Specialised Investigative Unit’s preliminary report found that Masuku failed to uphold the Constitution and regulations contained in the Public Finance Management Act. 

 
Today Makhura appointed Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi as the the New Gauteng Health MEC  and  Deputy Cogta Minister Parks Tau as the new MEC for economic development.

Premier Makhura made the announcement at a media briefing in Johannesburg on Wednesday. Makhura said a team of administrators would also be appointed to assist at the health department. The ANC  in Gauteng had given Makhura until the end of November to make a decision.
