FIFA Club World Cup on the horizon

This week marks the start of the Inaugural FIFA Club World Cup as seven teams from Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, Africa,Asia and the host nation Morocco will do battle from the 1st of February till the 11th of February.

The FIFA Club World Cup which was supposed to have been played in December 2022 but was postponed to February 2023 due to the FIFA World Cup will see seven knock out matches that will be played with extra time and if need be penalties except the third place fixture which will go straight to penalties if the result is a draw after 90 minutes.

Morocco's Wydad Casablanca will look to use the home ground advantage to their favour as the matches will play in Rabat and Tangier at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium and Ibn Batouta Stadium.

Al Ahly who are also not new on this global stage will be hoping to emulate their heroics from the last Club World Cup and potentially even go far to claim the title but they will first need to overcome Auckland City in the 1st round.

Coming from Oceania, Auckland City qualified with their tenth OFC Champions League title courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Venus.

4 time winners Real Madrid are the hot favorites going into the tournament after having a beautiful run in the UEFA Champions League last season.

The side from Madrid will look to the services of Ballon d'or winner Karim Benzema alongside Vinicious Jnr. to help them clinch a record fifth title.

The 19th edition of the tournament also sees the likes of Seattle Sounders from North & Central America, Al Hilal from Asia and Flamengo from South America also in the mix.

The three teams will be in action as early as the 1st and 2nd round of the tournament.

With majority of the fans not sure how and where to watch this exciting tournament, FIFA+  will stream the tournament in most parts of the world while European TV broadcasters have not yet been confirmed for the competition.
