Following news of the death of 21-year-old Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) student, Ntokozo Xaba, the ex-boyfriend of the deceased is set to appear in the Pretoria Regional Court today. This, was after he was taken in for questioning by the police this past weekend.

The cry against the pandemic of gender-based violence seems to be falling on deaf ears. This, as yet another woman has found herself at the hands of what appears to be an act of gender-based violence.

Ntokozo Xaba was a third-year Tshwane University of Technology student who was found dead at her off-campus residence, Ekhaya Junction last week.

According to police, Xaba and her friends were out drinking with her ex-boyfriend the night of 1 February 2023, when Xaba's friends left her alone with him. The details of what transpired afterward are still unclear, however, Xaba's lifeless body was found the next morning with multiple stab wounds to the neck.

An investigation into Xaba's murder was opened, with her ex-boyfriend being taken in for questioning this past weekend.

The suspect, a player known to have played for the Blue Bulls junior side last year, is allegedly the last person to have seen Xaba alive and is expected to appear in court today.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the Blue Bulls expressed that although the club does not know all the details of what happened, it condemns gender-based violence. The team further sent its condolences to Xaba's family.

With nationwide outrage on the increase in cases of gender-based violence, this case will be yet another one that sets the precedent on how the justice system handles gender-based violence and femicide.

The suspect is set to appear in the Pretoria Regional Court today.

This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
