Dzvukamanja leads Pirates to Nedbank Cup glory

Orlando Pirates were crowned the 2023 Nedbank Cup champions after beating Sekhukhune United 2-1 in the final at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday evening.

Pirates had to come back from behind after Sekhukhune took an early lead through Sibusiso Vilakazi in the 12th minute however, a controversial penalty saw the Buccaneers level terms on the stroke of half time through Tapelo Xoki.

Pirates began the second half on the front foot and created numerous goalscoring opportunities inside the first 10 minutes of the half with the likes of Kermit Erasmus and Thabang Monare finding themselves in favourable positions inside the Sekhukhune half but failed to make the most of their chances.

Although Babina Noko were dominating majority of the second half, Pirates had the last say after taking the lead in the 94th minute through Terrence Dzvukamanja after a neat and well executed assist from Monnapule Saleng.

The victory saw the Sea Robbers clinch the Nedbank Cup title for the first time after nine years, moreover, the victory also meant that Pirates have now won their second domestic title in the 2022/23 PSL season after winning the MTN 8 earlier on during the season.
