Daniel Cardoso eyeing a first career silverware

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso believes the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium provides him with an opportunity to finally get his hands on some silverware for the first time in his career.

Having joined Sekhukhune United from Kaizer Chiefs at the beginning of the current season, Cardoso spent seven seasons with Chiefs where he failed to win a single trophy after Steve Komphela lured him from Free State Stars where he spent three seasons as the first professional club of his career.

With Sekhukhune United now in the final of the Nedbank Cup, the Babina Noko defender is relishing the chance of finally getting his hands on a trophy in his first season at the club.

Speaking ahead of the final on Thursday at the Sekhukhune United press conference, Cardoso said he would like to change the norm of always playing cup finals but always coming out second best.

"I have been to many cup finals and I am always coming out second best and that is not a good feeling at all because it's always a bitter pill to swallow.

So I am hoping with this one, I can help in guiding the boys to lifting the cup and I think it would be nice for myself, the club and the players at large to win the Nedbank Cup and finish the season on a high note," Cardoso said.

Babina Noko progressed to the final of the Nedbank Cup after defeating Stellenbosch FC 4-3 on penalties in the semi-finals earlier on this month and also managed to qualify for the 2023/24 CAF Confederations Cup however, the 34 year-old defender believes getting his hands on some silverware would have completed his career in the best possible manner ever.

"Personally for myself it would be sad to end my career without lifting a cup because I am getting older and here in South Africa once you reach your 30's they say you are old which I don't understand but I would honestly love to lift this one with the club only in their second season in the PSL," Cardoso added.

Kick-off at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday is at 18:00 o'clock in the evening.
