Cope struggles to cope with it's party factions amid Tshwane Council Mayoral Election

The issues of the Congress of the People (Cope) seem to be never-ending. This is as the Speaker of the Johannesburg Council and Cope member, Colleen Makhubele made yet another appearance to engage in the politics of Tshwane.

Following confusion regarding the validity of Thabang Sefanyetso over allegations of him having a criminal record as well as two different ID numbers, a new member has now emerged as his replacement.

The member in question, Ofentse Moalusi, was sworn in just last week and made his first appearance in Council today.

Despite this, Moalusi is looking to make history, as he has his eyes on the position of Executive Mayor of the City.

Following announcements of his appointment as a Council member for Cope in the City, allegations have now emerged of a romantic relationship between himself and the Johannesburg Speaker of Council and fellow party member, Colleen Makhubele.

Speaking on behalf of Makhubele, party Chairperson in the province, Tom Mofokeng addressed the allegations saying that if the pair are in a relationship, nothing would be wrong with that as it’s been seen before, referring to former head of state, Jacob Zuma.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Thabang Sefanyetso, who was removed by Makhubele will be taking the matter of his removal to court.

This comes as members of the other faction of the party, have alleged that his removal was to have Makhubele chose her preferred candidate and meddle in the politics of Tshwane.

According to Cope’s regional chairperson, Brian Mkhono, Makhubele has made herself a resident of Tshwane.

Mkhono further debunked allegations of Sefanyatso’s criminal record and ID number issues.

With Moalusi set to stand as a candidate for the ANC-led coalition, one will wait in anticipation to see if the coalition will see yet another victory against the DA-led coalition candidate, Cilliers Brink.

This is a developing story, more updates to follow.
