"Chiefs doesn't have quality players" - David Kannemeyer

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer has expressed his views on the current state of Kaizer Chiefs, lamenting that the club currently doesn't have quality players.

This follows Chiefs' poor run in the just ended 2022/23 DStv Premiership season finishing the league on position five after 30 matches with 44 points.

Amakhosi went into the new season under the guidance of Arthur Zwane as the new head coach and once again just like in the past eight seasons, the Glamour boys were unable to capture any silverware throughout the season, much to the disappointment of their fans.

Although the Amakhosi faithful have been calling for the sacking of Zwane lately, Kannemeyer begs to differ alluding that Chiefs is lacking quality players that will bring the glory days back to Naturena.

“The fact is there are no quality players at the moment and I think the playing staff is not good enough that is just the reality, I hear that the fans are calling for the coach to leave but what are the players doing?

It can’t be the coaches because Gavin Hunt was there, Stuart Baxter and Ernst Middendorp were also there before, you can bring another coach he will fail because there is no quality and clearly you can’t fire three coaches in a space of a year and a half and say the coach is the problem," Kannemeyer said.

While the league has concluded and everyone within the football fraternity is resting, Kannemeyer believes that the managament should use this time to analyse the squad in depth and make a decision on who to keep, let go and bring in.

"The management needs to re-look at the whole squad and see what can they bring in to make the team better," Kannemeyer added.

Amakhosi will now have to go back to the drawing board to see where they can fix and bring back the glory days at the club next season.
