Banyana Banyana's Jermaine Seoposenwe faces a severe injury

Banyana Banyana might just head to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup without the services of star forward Jermaine Seoposenwe.

This follows Seoposenwe's injury from tendinitis and with the medical staff at FC Juarez Femenil, the club Seoposenwe is currently playing for in Mexico, confirming that the player needs to be on the sidelines for a while, the recovery time of the injury is unknown.

While the opening match for Banyana Banyana in the World Cup is on the 23rd of July 2023, Seoposenwe is set to undergo a treatment called Percutaneous Micro-electrolysis to help with the pain and facilitate healing in her tendon.

The treatment will require Seoposenwe to not do much weight barring exercises, especially running for a week.

Amid all the stress and pain Seoposenwe is currently experiencing, the former SC Braga player is optimistic she will recover just in time to help her team reach the playoffs and also participate in the World Cup.

"I want to get back as soon as possible because my team is at a crucial stage in the season and I would like to help them reach their first ever playoff.

I am also fully aware of the World Cup being on the horizon, which is why the medical team and myself will try to navigate through this period as best as we can, to avoid a serious long term injury," Seoposenwe said on her twitter account.

The 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations champion was instrumental in helping Banyana Banyana clinch the title last year in Morocco scoring two goals against in the tournament against Nigeria and Tunisia respectively.

Having made 78 appearances for the national team so far, the 29 year old UWC Ladies footballer will be aiming to participate in another World Cup after being part of the 23-woman squad that participated in the 2019 Women’s World Cup held in France.

With Banyana done with their friendly internationals, all eyes will be on head coach Desiree Ellis as she is about to announce her squad for the upcoming World Cup in the months to come.
