Bafana Bafana defeated Morocco to go on top of group K

Bafana Bafana humbled Morocco in the last match of the 2023 AFCON qualifier by claiming a famous 2-1 victory at the FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

In the opening minutes of the match both sides showed attacking intentions but it was the hosts that broke the deadlock first through an own goal by Munir Mohamedi in the 5th minute of the encounter.

With Bafana Bafana controlling proceedings  for the majority of the first half, Innocent Maela tried to find Mihlali Mayambela, however the through pass was intercepted before reaching the intended target and few moments later Themba Zwane was the next to try his luck but completely missed the target as well.

While the two teams went to the break with Bafana leading 1-0, Hugo Broos' charges started the second half exactly as they did with the first when Zakhele Lepasa doubled the lead in the 48th minute to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Lepasa then celebrated his goal by mimicking Clive Barker's touchline aeroplane run.

However, Bafana were punished four minutes later when Hakim Ziyech got in behind Innocent Mala and unleashed a tempestuous shot that fizzed past Ronwen Williams in the 60th minute to add more drama into the encounter.

It was all Morocco in the last few moments of the match as they tried to restore parity but Bafana held on for a famous 2-1 victory that saw them sit comfortably at the summit of the group K with 7 points.
