Bafana Bafana crumble in the second half

A disappointing second half display from Bafana Bafana saw Liberia salvage a 2-2 draw in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Orlando Stadium on Friday night.

Heading into the second half leading 2-0 after an exceptional performance in the first half that saw Lyle Foster score a brace, Bafana took their foot off the pedal in the last 20 minutes of the encounter as Liberia scored through Tonia Tisdell and Mohammed Sangare late in the second half.

Bafana broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when Lyle Foster nailed in an early spotkick after Percy Tau was brought down in the penalty box before the Burnley striker completed his brace in the 22nd minute from a super gliding headed effort.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane should have netted Bafana's third goal immediately after the second however, the striker saw his effort go agonizingly wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Bafana would have themselves to blame in the opening 15 minutes of the second half, as Hugo Broos' charges had a plethora of goalscoring chances, but were either not clinical in their passing or shooting apart from Tau's free-kick which was supposed to be an indirect free-kick.

Liberia made some changes that influenced the game and that's when they managed to pull one back through Tisdell in the 68th minute.

Sangare who was another substitute for Liberia stunned Bafana in the 90th minute to send the crowd into deafening silence as the West African side head to the reverse fixture with a valuable point.

The two teams will meet again in Monrovia on Tuesday for what is expected to be a thrilling clash as whoever wins the encounter will secure their ticket to the Afcon tournament in Ivory Coast next year.
