Arthur Zwane provides a review on Chiefs' season

Following another disappointing result in the DSTV Premiership on the 1st of May 2023, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has provided a review on Chiefs' 2022/23 PSL season.

Chiefs saw their CAF Champions League aspirations fall by the wayside as they lost 2-1 to Swallows FC on Monday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium to stay fourth on the log with 44 points after 28 matches.

Although there are only two matches remaining in the DSTV Premiership for the Glamour Boys, they can still mathematically qualify for the CAF Champions League provided they win the two remaining matches and hope that second place Orlando Pirates and third place SuperSport United slip up.

With SuperSport United and Cape Town City up next for Chiefs in the DSTV Premiership, Zwane insists they will give their best and fight to win in the remaining matches because football is unpredictable and anything can happen.

Despite the positive approach towards the closure of the season, Zwane has also admitted that this is a season to forget for the club.

"This is one season that we obviously would want to forget although there is still a lot to play for, it was honestly going to be a bit of a challenge from the beginning however, I think the players did fairly well because they gave their best all the time and yes some of the games we thought we deserved to win but we didn't win them and we can learn from them.

We started the season with a number of new players after letting go of some players too and I think there is a lot of improvement in the squad now, especially with the young players and the players that are new in the setup," Zwane said.

Despite the loss to Swallows FC putting a dent on Amakhosi's CAF Champions League aspirations, the Glamour Boys still have the Nedbank Cup to play for as they face Orlando Pirates in the semi-final of the competition on Saturday the 6th of May at the FNB Stadium.

The Nedbank Cup also provides Chiefs with an opportunity to end the 8 years trophy drought at the club and Zwane is adamant his side will achieve the goal at hand.

"The Nedbank Cup match is very important to us and we will head into it with one mindset of making it to the final and we still have two more games to play before the final so there is a lot at stake.

All the games are important for us and we don't choose games, I have always been saying this, we want to win every game even the previous one's that we either drew or lost, we wanted to win them too," Zwane added.

In his first season as the head coach of the Amakhosi, Zwane has managed to win 13 league matches, draw 5 and lose 10 so far after 28 matches while also leading the side to the MTN 8 and Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium on Saturday is at 15:00 o'clock.
