Another Soweto Derby is on the horizon in the Nedbank Cup

Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup on Sunday night after defeating Royal AM 2-1 only to set up a Soweto derby clash against Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals.

Hoping to join Stellenbosch FC, Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United in the last four of the Nedbank Cup, Chiefs found themselves trailing as early as the 28th minute when Samuel Manganyi broke the deadlock for Royal AM much to the disappointment of the Kaizer Chiefs defence.

Parity was restored almost immediately as Edmilson Dove placed an inch perfect assist in Royal AM's penalty box trying to find Ashley Du Preez only for Thabo Matlaba to head the ball into his own net.

The two teams went to halftime deadlocked at 1-1 and with no team sealing the victory in the second 45 minutes, the match went to extra-time.

During the 12th minute of the first half in extra-time Kaizer Chiefs' Mduduzi Shabalala was fouled in the penalty box by Royal AM goalkeeper only for the referee to award Chiefs the penalty.

Midfield maestro Yusuf Maart stepped up and converted from 12 yards to set the crowd into a frenzy at a packed Chatsworth Stadium.

Maart's penalty conversion seemed to be the only threatening action in extra-time as Arthur Zwane's men consolidated matters until the final whistle.

Immediately after Chiefs' win, the semifinals draw was conducted and in the first semifinal of the tournament, Kaizer Chiefs saw themselves being drawn against Orlando Pirates for another Soweto derby this season.

Pirates advanced after defeating ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars 5-4 on penalties on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the second semifinal will be between Stellenbosch FC against Sekhukhune United, both sides progressed to the last four after getting the better of Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United respectively.

Dates and venues for the semifinals will be confirmed in due course.
