Amakhosi defeat Richards Bay ahead of the Nedbank Cup last 16

Kaizer Chiefs won their second consecutive DSTV Premiership match in a period of 7 days as they defeated Richards Bay 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Fresh from the Soweto Derby triumph against Orlando Pirates, Amakhosi started the match like a house on fire as Siyabonga Ngezana neatly headed Mduduzi Shabalala's free-kick into the back of the net to give the Glamour Boys the lead in the 8th minute.

Richards Bay were dealt with a major blow when goalkeeper Salim Magoola was given a red card in the 19th minute of the encounter due to handling the ball outside of the box.

Magoola had come out to try and cut the danger with Keagan Dolly running onto a long ball sent in brilliantly by Siyethemba Sithebe.

Amakhosi upped the tempo as they looked to use the numerical advantage to their favour however, they lacked composure in front of goal with Caleb Bimenyimana and Christian Saile causing all sorts of problems for the KZN side.

With the two teams going to halftime with Chiefs still leading 1-0, the second half was rather disappointing for Amakhosi as they continued to struggle using the numerical advantage to their favour much to the disappointment of fans.

The fans' frustrations escalated as they called for the substitution of Bimenyimana in the 70th minute after ballooning the ball over what looked like a good chance from just outside the box.

With coach Arthur Zwane bringing in the changes in the second half, Amakhosi consolidated matters until the final whistle to claim the much needed 3 points.

The Glamour Boys will next face Casric Stars in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup at the FNB Stadium next weekend.
