Amakhosi are ready for Golden Arrows

Kaizer Chiefs are eager to return back to their winning ways in the league when they meet Golden Arrows in the DSTV Premiership clash on Sunday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

It is a very busy schedule for Chiefs who will immediately prepare for the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates on the 25th of February when they return from Polokwane and also still set their focus on the Nedbank Cup last 16.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of the Arrows encounter on Thursday afternoon, Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane mentioned the importance of getting the victory against the KZN side to set the tone for the Soweto derby.

"The match against Arrows is extremely important for us because it gives us the opportunity to prepare for the derby, it is also important for us to get the three points so that we can keep the consistency in all competitions," Zwane said.

Speaking about consistency, Zwane also said that they have worked on their defensive mistakes as a team and have also dealt with the individual mistakes that cost them most of their disappointing results lately.

On a partly cloudy day at Naturena, Zwane was partly unsure whether Caleb Bimenyimana alongside Mduduzi Shabalala were fit enough to participate and be in the starting XI on Sunday, "With Caleb and Mduduzi I am not sure as yet if they are fit to play on Sunday however, they will be joining us for training and we will take it from there," Zwane added.

Staying on injuries, Chiefs will still be without Khama Billiat, Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons

Zwane furthermore alluded that he believes the team will end the season on a high note as they are still in quest for a second spot finish in the league, "The goal now is to obviously fight to finish second in the league and also do well in the Nedbank Cup,"

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson was also in attendance at the press conference and the 28 year old former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper expressed his delight at the way he has been playing whenever he gets the nod to be between the sticks.

"I am obviously grateful for the opportunity whenever I get to play and I believe that it is all because of the hard work we put in as the goalkeepers of the team, Itumeleng Khune has also played a pivotal role in my consistency and making sure that I keep the clean sheets," Peterson said.

A jubilant Peterson said that he likes the healthy competition between himself, Itumeleng Khune and Bruce Bvuma citing that it is pleasing to see everyone support and encourage each other in the goalkeeping department of the side.

Amakhosi are currently on a roll of three consecutive clean sheets in all competitions and Peterson is confident that another clean sheet is on the horizon against a Arrows side that they have beaten before in the reverse fixture last year December.

"We are approaching the Golden Arrows game knowing that they are a good side that can catch you on the break if you switch off but we are ready and prepared to go back to Polokwane and claim another clean-sheet victory," Peterson alluded.

Chiefs began one of their three matches that are going to be played at the Peter Mokoba Stadium with a 2-0 victory against Royal AM and Peterson hopes that they will continue where they left off the last time out in Polokwane.

"I really do not mind us playing some of our home games in Polokwane because we have observed that we have a big following that side too, as you know the fans are always important because they form part of the 12th man on the pitch so it is really home away from home"

Meanwhile Amakhosi Midfielder Siyathemba Sithebe welcomed the Nedbank Cup last 16 draw that was confirmed on Wednesday night that Kaizer Chiefs will play against ABC Motsepe side Casric Stars.

Sithebe mentioned that with the MTN 8 and the league already lost, they are going to fight to win the Nedbank Cup.

"The Nedbank Cup is the only trophy left for us to win now and we want to win it to end the trophy drought, we have Casric Stars in the last 16 and we know it is not going to be easy however, we are going to that clash knowing very well that winning is the only result we want," said Sithebe.

Kick-off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday is at 15:30
