Following the passing of Mamelodi Sundowns' long-serving communications manager and staunch supporter, Alex Shakoane, Sundowns legend Daniel Mudau has described Shakoane as someone that breathed Mamelodi Sundowns.

Shakoane passed away on Sunday the 7th of May at the age of 67 years and his life will always be remembered as a life that was full of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Having joined Sundowns during it's formative years in the 1970's, Shakoane made a name for himself as a loyal servant of football in Mamelodi, Tshwane and the whole of South Africa.

With Mamelodi Sundowns and the various football teams in the Premier Soccer League paying tribute to a man that was affectionately called 'Goldfingers', Mudau has also reiterated that Shakoane lived every moment of his life serving Mamelodi Sundowns.

"Bra Alex was Sundowns personified, he ate, breathed and lived Sundowns so we are deeply hurt by his passing because he was one person that managed to bring people together irrespective of which club a certain group of people belonged to.

He was able to also influence supporters to go to the Stadiums and people would actually go and watch a game of football because of Bra Alex, we have indeed lost a charismatic and an energetic leader in Bra Alex," Mudau said.

While Mudau also made a name for himself during his playing days at Mamelodi Sundowns, 'Mambush' as he was called by many lamented at how Shakoane played a vital role in his career as a football player.

"I remember Bra Alex took me from the dusty streets of Mamelodi and told me that he wants me to play professional football for Sundowns at a senior level and the rest is history because I am who I am today because of Bra Alex."

With Shakoane being one of the few communications manager that was fluently multi-lingual, Mudau reflected on how he inspired he was every time when listening to Shakoane getting interviewed.

"Bra Alex was one of a kind, he is one man that taught me three things in life, sense of homour, a forgiving spirit and loyalty, and I will forever be grateful for the moments that I had with him.

He was able to do interviews in numerous languages and that made him different in his own way because he was able to touch different tribes of people in an amazing way," Mudau added.

Mudau furthermore alluded that Shakoane's life should be celebrated even though he has passed on because that's something he[Alex Shakoane] would have wanted.

"We need to celebrate him and I am glad the team is in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League and hopefully we can win it to honour Bra Alex as he continues to rest in peace."
