With just hours left until the Minister announces the National Senior Certificate (NSC) Results of 2022, the class has been hailed as one that overcame all odds including Covid-19 and load shedding.

Minister Motshekga addressed the top achievers and their parents on 19 January 2023 ahead of the much-anticipated announcement of the results of the class of 2022, which is expected to take place later today.

According to Motshekga, "To tower over your peers is no fluke, an accident of history, but it is a triumph reserved for those whose greatness is yet to be experienced."

With the Class of 2022 having been the only class to have had their Grade 10 to Matric year amid the Covid-19 pandemic, many have questioned how well the class has done. Despite this, the minister has expressed her confidence in this class and has thanked them for their hard work.

The Joburg Post caught up with Bongiwe Mkhatshwa from the Filadelfia Secondary School in Soshanguve, Gauteng.

When asked how she found her matric year, Bongiwe expressed that it was difficult with lots of challenges, but she told herself that she needed to pass. She further added that she thanks God and is very happy that she made it.

Many other students expressed that despite the challenges, they had great support behind them.

Landingwe Khanyisile from the Eastern Cape expressed that her parent, teachers, and principal were always there to support her adding that they never gave up on her even when she was failing.

When asked for her advice for the Class of 2023, Khanyisile said, "They should start early and should be serious now".
