MI Cape Town too good for Joburg Super Kings

Man of the match Kagiso Rabada made sure that the MI Cape Town got back to their winning ways after defeating Joburg Super Kings by 7 wickets in the SA20 cricket tournament at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on Saturday.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first the MI Cape Town bowlers starred as the Joburg Super Kings were restricted to 105/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Rabada took the all important wicket of Reeza Hendricks early on in the third over of the match and coming back again to claim the wicket of Gerald Coetzee for an impressive 2/14 in his four overs.

Spin bowler George Linde picked up two wickets aswell as he claimed the wicket of the dangerous Janneman Malan for sixteen runs in the fourth over and Kyle Verreynne in the fifth over for four runs. 

Super Kings Captain Faf du Plessis had another bad day on the crease as he was bowled out on eight by spinner Waqar Salamkheil, the ever dangerous Donovan Ferreira was also bowled out for seven runs by Rashid Khan.

With a dominant display by the MI Cape Town bowlers, the Joburg Super Kings top runs scorer was Leus du Plooy who scored 21 off 26 balls before being taken out by Odean Smith.

Smith also claimed the wicket of Romario Shepherd for five runs, with the Super Kings' tail order trying to put some respect on the scoreboard Khan returned to attack and took out Alzarri Joseph for two runs.

George Garton ended unbeaten on 13 and Aaron Phangiso made 10 not out as the Super Kings posted a sloppy 105/9.

In reply the Mi Cape Town's Dewald Brevis and Ryan Rickelton had an opening partnership of 65 runs before Gerald Coetzee took him out in the ninth over for 24 runs.

Brevis who hit two fours three sixes fell for 42 runs courtesy of Coetzee who ended his innings on 2/24, Grant Roelofsen fell cheaply for five runs off the bowling of Romario Shepherd in the 14th over.

However the damage had already been done as Rassie van der Dussen and Sam Curran took the Cape Town based outfit over the line in 16.2 overs.

The victory sees the Mi Cape Town move to the summit of the SA20 log with 9 points after 3 matches.
