Pirates bounce back while Sekhukhune edge Stellenbosch FC

By Neo Poho

Orlando Pirates got back to winning ways in the DSTV Premiership with a convincing 3-1 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Goals by Monnapule Saleng, Terrence Dzvukamanja and Vincent Pule were enough to see the Sea Robbers put a smile on the fans faces once again.

Saleng broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when he converted a Bandile Shandu good looking cross into the back of net, the hosts then consolidated the match to head into Halftime leading 1-0.

Vusumuzi Vilakazi's team talk during the break must have been ruthless as the KZN side went into the second half a difficult team altogether and that paid off as Velemseni Ndwandwe equalized for the visitors in the 68th minute.

In a match that looked to end with a draw, Pirates looked to their second-half substitutes to seal the victory as Dzvukamanja sent the hosts into the lead on 92nd minute while Pule sealed the victory on the 94th minute.

The victory sees The Buccaneers end a three match winless run while also moving over to the 5th Spot on the log Standings.

Pirates will next play Stellenbosch FC on the 22nd of January at the Orlando Stadium.

Elsewhere Sekhukhune United won their second consecutive match in as many games as they defeated Stellebosch FC 1-0 at the Danie Craven Stadium.

A solitary goal in the first half by Chibuike Ohizu was the difference between the sides as Babina Noko climbed up to 7th spot on the standings.

In other notable results from yesterday's matches we saw Richards Bay defeat Marumo Gallants 2-0 while Chippa United played out to a 1-1 draw with Cape Town City.
