Open Call : First Sundays Open Air Art Fair call for artwork

By Lindelwa Masuku

Calling all sculptors and interventionists in Gauteng!

Victoria Yards, the vibrant cultural and innovation hub nestled in the heart of Lorentzville Johannesburg, is excited to announce its pilot First Sundays Open Air Art Fair.

On February 4th, 2023, transforming their green spaces and industrial buildings into a vibrant outdoor gallery, featuring the work of local artists.

Since its founding in 2018, Victoria Yards has become a destination for creativity and innovation, and they are eager to continue this legacy by providing a platform for artists to showcase and potentially sell their work.

They are inviting submissions for sculptures, installations and artworks that speak to the natural and built environment of the site. The Open Air Art Fair welcomes both temporary and permanent pieces, as well as interactive and ephemeral creations.

The selection panel, made up of tenants and affiliates of Victoria Yards, will choose sculptures that are responsive to the site and feasible to install.

Selected artists will have the opportunity to visit Victoria Yards and collaborate with the organising committee to determine the final location of their artwork.

On the day of the fair, at least two walkabouts will be held, giving artists the chance to attend, talk about their work and answer any questions from visitors.

This is a unique opportunity for artists to showcase their talents and connect with a diverse audience in an exciting and dynamic setting.

So, grab your chisels and hammers, and start creating! We can't wait to see what you come up with.

Email Tammy Stewart at sculpture@vicyards.co.za to enter. Submissions close January 13th
