In the bid to stabilise the Johannesburg Social Housing Company and introduce competent individuals to implement the turnaround strategy that has been approved by the Board and shareholder, the Human Settlements MMC: Cllr Mlungisi Mabaso is pleased to announce that the JOSHCO Board of Directors has decided to make the following executive appointments

For Chief Executive Officer
Mr Sello Molapane Mothotoana, a seasoned public servant who has been in both academia and the City of Johannesburg’s Human Settlements Department, has the adequate skills and knowledge to bring, the much-needed change in the entity.

Mothotoana is no stranger to the JOSHCO community and business as he has been acting as CEO for the past three month, leading the implementation of the turnaround strategy.

He holds various qualifications including a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of South Africa and has conducted research in the space of hostel redevelopment. He is an instrumental figure in the implementation of the informal settlement upgrade program worth R2 billion.

The Board has also filled two other critical vacancies:

Chief Operations Officer: Mr Themba Mathibe and Executive Manager: Corporate Services: Ms Nokwazi Mtshali, both of whom are experienced professionals, with specialised skills and qualifications. Both executives have been acting in these respective roles for the past few months.

“We are excited and look forward to the changes they will bring within the organisation, and service delivery to the residents of City of Johannesburg. We are fortunate to have appointed this young, energetic and dynamic team that has been responsible for streamlining JOSHCO’s business and internal controls by bringing the Board’s strategic vision to life. Innovative initiatives which are repositioning the entity to remain the best Social Housing Institution in Africa, are being implemented.  JOSHCO has continued to build more units, and this will assist in ensuring that it retains the largest Social Housing Institution (SHI) status in Africa.

Furthermore, the entity has improved on its special projects department sitting with a project book of over R2.5 billion generating over R80 million in JOSHCO project management fees, which are believed to be a good revenue enhancement stream.

The entity has also begun the process of introducing smart technologies, green technologies, alternative building tech systems as well as venturing into other revenue enhancement streams. We wish the executive team and all JOSHCO staff well in this new chapter,” said Ms Gaby Boikanyo, Board Chairperson for JOSHCO.

The MMC of Human Settlements in the City of Johannesburg Cllr Mlungisi Mabaso said: “I am equally excited and happy with the appointments that have been made at JOSHCO and I believe that these individuals have the much-needed capability, capacity and required set of skills to stabilise the entity to make it profitable and the best SHI in Africa.

I welcome all of them and look forward to a great working relationship onwards. I hope they will maintain the high momentum and efforts they have put in the last three months while acting and thus far impressed with the plans they have outlined.”
