“Work initially started here 8 years ago and the project was left incomplete after a contractor went bust in 2018. Under the new Multi-Party Government, Joburg Water has now appointed project managers and main contractor that will commence construction work on the 1st of September” MMC for EISD Michael Sun said.

“As part of the Multi-Party Government’s golden repair of Johannesburg we will ensure that this work is expedited and finished with the highest standard, we are also looking to power the buildings with green energy. The residents of Johannesburg should expect nothing less.”

The statement further added that, the site will not only comprise of an office block but also storerooms, workshops, ablution facilities and accommodation for Joburg Water technicians and operators working overtime. Once the depot is complete Joburg Water will move from temporary rented property, thereby saving the entity funds that can be better used for service delivery.

“I will personally be monitoring this work to ensure it is delivered on time, to specifications and to a quality standard ,” Sun said.
