How to become an exceptional author

Many of us have a story to tell, from past experience and lessons learned along our journey in life to fantasies we wish to share with the world. Not everyone is born an author but becoming a writer is a skill anyone can acquire at any age in life. Just like any other career there are things to avoid and things to take deeply into consideration to build a successful writing career.

A writer like William Shakespeare till to date remains arguably the most influential writer in the English language because of his authenticity and carefully selected words. He has connected with so many people through his writings and plays, he more especially emphasized on the importance of human life, relationships and love. A Shakespearean material is still relevant to read and follow the values, that’s what we call an exceptional writer.

When writing non-fiction or research based on true events you need to be factual. Unauthentic stories which are fabricated or plagiarized can end one’s career if failed to be confirmed. A lot of writers make the mistake of writing bogus stories to spice up the story or reach a certain conclusion that makes the story interesting. You must always acquire the truth when telling your story, make sure your research checks out.

You must look at writing as a long-term investment and I’m saying this because most authors expect results immediately after a release of the first book, the truth is you will probably start seeing results of your hard work after the second or third release but I’m not taking away the possible chance of publishing a bestseller at your first release. There are plausible reasons: it could be the relevancy of your topic, hard work, good marketing or simply luck. There is never a precise timeline for authors and writers to have their first breakthrough, you must remain focused and work daily on perfecting your craft. The writing career requires a lot of patience, it takes years of constant labor.

Identify your style of writing, your genre and of cause the topic of interest. As much as most great writers can float through different topics and genres identification is still necessary and important when classifying a published author because your focus needs to catch the attention of a specific audience. You need to read quality books to enhance your creativity and vocabulary.

If you are interested in becoming a writer, you do not need a certain degree. You can certainly accomplish that goal if you put your mind and focus in the right place.
