#PlayOfTheWeek

By Fentselite

It’s been another week of ups and downs in the sporting world with change being the only constant. The F1 race is heating up and the drama continues in the World Cup qualifiers.

Congratulations to the Springboks as they finish the year as the top-ranking team even after their recent loss to the British lions. Bafana Bafana on the other hand have been removed from the top after leading their World Cup qualifiers group ahead of Ghana. SAFA have lodged their complaint with FIFA after dubious officiating during their last match-up that saw the Black Stars top the group and qualify for the play offs. If the appeal is successful, the match might be replayed as the race for Qatar 2022 continues.

Speaking of Qatar, Lewis Hamilton’s race-off with Max Verstappen continued this weekend and after being relegated to 7th position for not stopping during the yellow flag, the Red Bull Racing driver managed to take p2 behind Mercedes Benz and the lead has been cut to 8 points after Max got another point for fastest lap. There are two races left and they’re going to be the greatest duel the sport has seen in a while.

Off to England where Man Utd had another dismal showing, this time away to Watford. The Red Devils lost by 4 goals to one and the talk of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer again made the headlines. The Man Utd board have decided to relieve the manager of his duties as the team starts the search for another mentor. Names like former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane have been making rounds but it remains to be seen if the French legend would consider going to the EPL, word has it that he’s been learning English.

The other local United, Chippa, are also parting ways with their manager, former Wits mentor Gavin Hunt after a bad start to the season that saw the Eastern Cape outfit win once in 10 outings. The South African premiership is also back after the international break and not much has changed, except Sundowns did not win a match, neither did Royal AM, who lost to Sekhukhune, surprises there! But they were not the only Pretoria team not to get maximum points as Supersport lost to Marumo Gallants. Orlando Pirates also failed to score against Golden Arrows but the Glamour Boys through man-of-the-moment Bernard Parker got three points from Maritzburg United, wit the return of Castro.

And now to our #PlayOfTheWeek…

Congratulations to the Sundowns Ladies who have been taking part in the inaugural CAF ladies Champions League. The Masandawana went all the way to the final without conceding a goal and in a twist of avengers, beat Ghanaians in the final!

Congratulations to Sundowns Ladies, they make history as the first champions in the Totalenergies CAF Ladies Champions League! They give new meaning to… Ladies First!

That’s it for this weekend, catch you all again next Monday and remember to join the winning team on @mysportsbook_za.

Be a sport, tell a friend.
