#PlayOfThe Week

By Fentselite

An Egyptian walked tall at Old Trafford while an Austrian outcast becomes the Real deal!

It’s been a weekend of great sporting triumphs and more broken records; but in the end, some walked alone, and some made their mark.

The world of sports always delivers emotions, elations and embarrassment all at once week in and week out because every time every other team wins, it means another loses and the fanbase is separated.

Congratulations to South Africans teams in the CAF Champions League journey with Amazulu; Marumo Gallants, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates advancing in their campaigns against their other African counterparts.

In the domestic league we saw Supersport register their first loss at the hands of a Bernard Parker-inspired Amakhosi who scored all the goals on the day, a brace for Die Hond who took the Man of the Match award and an own goal for consolation for Matsatsantsa a Pitori, that Thamsanqa Gabuza decided to celebrate as his own. The brace meant Bernard Parker became the top goal scorer at Naturena in the PSL era, dethroning former Bafana star and Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Moving over to La Liga we saw the much-anticipated El Classico between Real Madrid and a struggling Barcelona. Ever since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi from La Liga it is left to anyone to craft their own history in this nail-biting battle. Barcelona brought out their latest acquisition from Manchester City, Sergio Kin Aguero who had made headlines wanting a move away from the team after the departure of Leo Messi.

Aguero scored a consolation goal in the very last moment of the duel as the score ended 2 goals to Los Blancos and one to Barca. The highlight was the opening goal in the first half by Real Madrid’s headline signing from Austria, one David Alaba! The former Bayern Munchen legend had realized a childhood dream to play for Real Madrid and now to score in his first El Classico is surely beyond his dreams!

But, for the #PlayOfTheWeek we go to the premier league where Manchester United played host to Liverpool and a match that saw some supporters leave the stadium at half time! That’s because Jurgen Klopp’s troops were already 4 goals to the good in the first 45 minutes of the encounter. Egyptian star Mo Salah took the match ball after his hat trick and goals from Diogo Jota and Naby Keita!

Mo Salah has now surpassed Ivory Coast and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba in the list of highest scoring Africans in the premier league! He now has 16 goals so far this season with only 12 matches played and raising his hand for the Ballon d’Or. Nothing seemed to go well for Ole Solsjkaer as his second half substitution Paul Pogba saw red and hit the showers early for a dangerous tackle. Could this be the end of the French man at Old Trafford? Is Ole’s job still safe?

That’s it for this week, til next Monday.
