#PlayOfTheWeek

If you spent the weekend in South Africa you must have thought there were traditional weddings everywhere because people were in their heritage regalia! It’s the beautiful reflective month of September as we had our Heritage Day on September 24th! Some people preferred to wear their springbok jerseys as a symbol of their heritage, also because the boys took on their arch-rivals All Blacks and lost by a close margin of 19-17!

There was more sport elsewhere, especially on the field of football. Paolo Maldini is one of the greatest legends of Italian football and a legend of AC Milan in Serie A. His son, Daniel Maldini had his dream debut for AC Milan with his legendary father in the stands and he gifted him with a debut goal as Milan beat Spezia by 2 goals to one. Daniel wasn’t the only football son to make his father proud as Romeo Beckham, son of Man Utd legend David Beckham made his professional debut for Fortlauderdale CF in the US.

Over in Germany, the biggest footballer right now, Robert Lewandowski received the deserved European Golden Shoe award for 2021 following his 41 goals in the Bundesliga that broke Gerd Muller’s record.

The Tottenham stadium in London hasn’t brought much luck for the Lilywhites in the English premiership this year despite the team convincing Harry Kane to stay and that same bad luck has visited another Brit in the world of boxing. Anthony Joshua is arguably the most commercial boxer today and many were convinced he would walk all over Ukranian Oleksandr Usyk in their Heavyweight bout! It wasn’t to be as we now have a new Heavyweight Champion!

When Leo Messi left Barcelona, he left the legendary jersey number 10 vacant, but the team took time before finding the deserved player to don the iconic strip. It was given to young Ansu Fati, who at that time was still out on injury! That faith in the player paid off when he returned 10 months later from the sidelines and played his first match in his new jersey number and true to football fairytales he scored against Levante! Barcelona now have a new Messi(ah)!

And for this week’s #PlayOfTheWeek we went to Sochi in the Russian f1 where Lewis Hamilton started from position 4 while Max Verstappen, who’s now 2 points behind the Brit started from the back. The race was a typical nail-biter that McLaren’s Lando Norris will wish to forget as he was leading until the final moments of the race when it started raining.

Lewis Hamilton took position one on the podium ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and became the first driver in the history of the f1 to win 100 races!! Lewis Hamilton started his career with his father as his coach and mentor and today is the pride not only of the family or the country but a great ambassador of #BlackLivesMattter!
