Junior Athletes Celebrate The Spirit of legendary Zithulele Sinqe In Westonaria.

The Zithulesle Sinqe Foundation proudly hosted the first series of 2021 Zet Sinqe Series Runs in partnership with the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) over this past Saturday on 26 June 2021 at Westonaria Sports Complex in Westonaria. This was the first series of its kind to be held with no spectators following strict safety protocols as per ASA and Government Covid-19 regulations.

The series is in honour of the late Zithulele Sinqe who was a former CGA Cross Country Vice-Chairperson and dedicated development coach with IAAF Level 2 Coaching qualification. The Series is not only about to honour the late Zithulele but to also unearth the new talent and assist in furthering of the education as part of the mission of the Zithulele Sinqe Foundation.

Kicking off the first three series with the 5km fun run in the early hours of the morning, where witnessed a great performance from Lehlohonolo Lusiti finishing straight in the time of 17:03. Lusiti, who finished 4 th in the U19 boys 4:51 he indicated that it was his first time wining in road race since the outbreak of Covid- 19 and this victory boosted his confident in 2021 season.

Some of the exceptional performances that stood out on the day were those of the Street Mile which caters for U13, U15, 17 and U19 boys and girls category. Junior Athletes Carmenittah Mogajane and Siyanda Dladla dominated the U13 boys and girls category in five minutes to end race in time of 05:59 and 05:51 respectively.

The final race of the day was U19 boys, which saw Vorentoe academy athletes Ofentse Bokaba, Fusi Ntoloane and Tshepo Ntutwana proved their strength in the back straight of the final race. With 300m to go, Bokaba’s strength was too much for his training partners to finish first in time of 4:33, Ntoloane was behind in 4:39 while Ntutwana finish third in 4:49.
During the interview with a representative from the Zithulele Sinqe Foundation, Zintle Mokoka indicated

that she is pleased with the outcome of the event though COVID was not in favour to host the series run last year but they managed to pull it off. “we’re working very closely with the schools with athletic bursaries so that the talent we see can hopefully find a home” said Mokoka The next event will take place on 21 August 2021 at Germiston.
