South Africa is experiencing different COVID-19 patterns compared to the second wave. This according to Professor Adrian Puren from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

He said the Northern Cape, Free State and the North West are showing signs of either being in the third wave or close to it. On Friday, the Gauteng government confirmed the province has officially entered a third wave.

"For all intents and purposes, the Free State was in the second wave, came out and went back straight into a third wave. Northern Cape as well, has gone into its third wave," Puren said.

 

"Gauteng is pretty close to, if not in, its third wave. It was already declared by the province premier.
"North West, when I look at the data, it's pretty close to the threshold so that will probably enter into the third wave," he said.
