The protesters have taken to the streets of Cape Town calling on the government to do more to show support for the people of Palestine as well as for sanctions against Israel. The march started at Hanover Street and progressed to Parliament.

Palestine and Israeli tensions are escalating resulting in many deaths. ENCA reported that Palestinian militants and the Israeli army exchanged a barrage of a deadly fire in the early hours of Wednesday as intense fighting continued overnight, with UN envoy for Middle East Peace Tor Wennesland warning the two sides were heading "towards a full-scale war".

Speaking to EWN  The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL)'s Nonceba Mhlauli said that it was a humanitarian crisis.
"We can no longer march every day when the people of Palestine are being brutally killed on a daily basis. When the government said that it was going to downgrade the embassy of Israel and it still has not done so, we must in our next course of action go and downgrade them ourselves," Mhlauli said.
