Department Embarks On One Of The Pillars Of #Ichoose2BActive Campaign

Department of Sport, Arts and Culture under the guidance of Minister Nathi Mthethwa in association with Gauteng Province MEC, Mbali Hlophe and Executive Mayor, Cllr Mluleki Nkosi of Lesedi Local Municipality, invite members of the media to 2021 downscaled Move for Health Day.

This year’s event takes place under strict guidance and control of the COVID -19 pandemic. Due to COVID – 19 and in line with Government Risk Adjustment Strategy, this year’s event implementation methodology has been downscaled so that there is adherence to Disaster Management Regulations in relation to reducing the risk of COVID – 19 infections.   
Government Risk Adjustment Strategy has led to the controlling and cancelation of gatherings and events of mass participation and activities.  Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Move for Health Day as a Global event was initially hosted at bigger venues enabling walk-in therefore attracting over +/- 2500 participants inclusive of the elderly and kids with the media on sight to cover the event. 

Due to COVID - 19 Pandemic the 2021 Move for Health Day will be taking place in a more controlled environment with details as follows: 
 Date: Monday, 10th May 2021 

Venue: Ratanda Multipurpose Sport Facility (Community Complex) Lesedi Municipality

Time: 09H00 – 13H30   

The event also informs global citizens on the importance of adopting active lifestyle and what measures can citizens put in place to eradicate non-communicable diseases. This year’s event will feature 5km walk, Tai Chi, yoga, aerobics, children’s games under the guidance of loveLife and games for the elderly including wellness activities under the guidance of Department of Health.
