Central Gauteng Athletics hosted a very successful 2021 CGA Annual General Meeting which was held on 06 March 2021 at the Recreation Hall in Germiston Stadium. 

 

CGA President James Moloi welcomed all the club executive members, CGA commissions and CGA board members present at the meeting. In his Opening address, a number of issues were outlined including the overview of administrative office activities, challenges and most importantly some of the achievements during the year 2020 under review. 

 

A moment of silence was observed to honour all the members lost in the fight again the Covid-19 pandemic and a special mention of the two National Technical Officials we lost during this period. 

 

The President reported on the activities which the province implemented to mitigate the effects of Covid19 impact to members, especially during the hard lockdown. This included the outreach programs of distributing over 200 food packs to less fortunate athletes and coaches. The activities included videos of support by some of our elite athletes, coaches and administrators posted on social media platforms. 

 

Covid19 impact was also felt by our clubs that organise races, however, as the province, we encouraged members to keep the sport relevant through participation in approved virtual races. CGA will be engaging with race organisers to see how to assist in ensuring that road running resumes participation. It was reported that Track and Field have managed to host 5 leagues since the start of the pandemic and a very successful Cross Country Trials in January 2021. 

 

The announcement of Tsogo Sun Hotels sponsorship for the period of 3 years gave hope to members, as the sponsorship will assist in ensuring that we send teams to National Championships to represent the province.  Other CGA sponsors and partners were acknowledged and thanked for their continued support even during these challenging times as we deal with Covid19. These included Ricoh, Coca Cola Beverage SA, Nike SA, National Lottery, Tsogo Sun and Qatar Airways, Spar South Rand. 

 

CGA external auditors confirmed that although Covid19 impacts are felt through a reduced income from race levies, organization has managed to relatively reduce expenses for the period under review. The audited financial report was presented by Ishmael Sebetoane of MWRK Accountants and Auditors whom was very impressed with the internal controls in place at CGA.
