The Minister of Health Zweli Mkihize has announced that a 144 people have died due to covid 19  on Thursday and the total number of deaths  is 49 667.  South Africa's cumulative number as of Thursday is on 1 509 124. The cumulative total of tests conducted to date is 8 999 322 with 31 862 new tests recorded since the last report.

Mkhize has  conveyed his condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients. The recovery rate now sits at 1 424 401, representing a recovery rate of 94%
