Friday Motivation: It's okay To Start Over

By Phumzile Mavimbela

What most people can confess about the year 2020 is that it forced most people to crawl and some to run without turning back from their comfort zones. I personally align to that school of thought that this year has been a year of defying normality and pushing ourselves beyond capabilities.

Due to retrenchment the extensive lockdown forced some people to start job hunting outside the career field. Well I found myself part of that group which had to take a job out of my career field and interest just so I could make ends meet. In that conundrum I was presented with opportunities of either riding the wave and getting my pay check at the end of the month and I was also presented with an opportunity of acquiring a new sets of skills, which will definitely  come in handy some where in m professional journey. However doing something for money does get tiring no matter how intrinsic motivation you put in at some point you will have to draw from passion to get the courage to continue no matter the adversities.

As I pushed myself to breaking point I eventually had to come sort of conclusion which led me to ask my self if I am going to continue drawing from an empty well or if I am going to have the courage to start again. Starting again career wise or personally does come at a cost, and often than seldom the cost is having to determine with if you are going to run after your dreams and passion relentlessly or you are going to wait for someone else to hand you a slice of buttered bread.

Whether you choose the head or the tail of the coin, you will have to live by the decisions you make.  This Friday as the year fast approaches its end, take some time to reflect if in 2020 you will still settle for comfort or you will go out of your comfort zone to chase the stars no matter the cost.  No decision is without result however you decided which. Happy Friday.
