Ramaphosa addressed the nation on the status of COVID-19 prevention measures.

To date 20 011 South Africans have lost their lives to the Covid 19 pandemic. On Wednesday night President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on the status of COVID-19 prevention measures this comes after his meeting with the National Coronavirus Command Council. Ramaphosa announced that the  National state of disaster has been extended to the 15th of December. This serves as an attempt in fighting the resurgence of the pandemic. 

Ramaphosa raised concerns over Nelson Mandela's Bay failure to comply to the regulations set in  fighting against the novel corona virus. He said the drastic resurgence of the virus  in the Eastern Cape is putting the entire country at risk . 

To Try and contain the situation The Government has come with with  a resurgence plan which includes:

Ensuring that health systems will be able to cope with the number of patients infected with Covid 19 through increasing oxygen masks and other relevant resources.
Scaling up testing in hot spots in areas such as Western Cape. 
Reducing complainsancy. 

The president reiterated that if people continue to not abide by the Covid regulations they will force the country to go  back to an intense level of lock down and that will cripple the economy.

South Africa is collaborating with several pharmaceutical companies to find a vaccine for the  virus. Earlier in the week. A local company has partnered with Johnson and Johnson to manufacture a Covid 19 vaccine.  Governement wants to ensure that there is  a surplus of the vaccine locally in order to ensure sufficient to South Africa as well as other African Countries. 

As the economy has been steadily been opening government has been able to turn its attention to measures of growing the economy shifting the focus from relief to recovery and they are ensuring that this process and gradual. 

Ramaphosa also announced changes in the level lock down regulations :

Alcohol sales will go back to normal
International travel restrictions will be lifted 
Covid grant and UIF Ters have been extended for another month

This years December 16 days of Activism  will be used to remember those who died from covid 19 as well as to raise awareness of Gender Based Violence.  From The 25th of November to the 29th of December the President has called on South Africans to wear black to demonstrate solidarity for those who died at the hand of Covid 19

From the 25th of  November to the 29th of December South Africans are called to wear black to mourn the death of those who lost their to Covid 19 to demonstrate solidarity.
