Here we are in Wonderful Harare, a sunshine city, where the weather never disappoints! It’s true, Harare was once voted the place with the best climate in the world in the 2011 Quality of Life Index by International Living magazine. If you are an outdoors person, you have come to just the right place. We have 3 places that you absolutely mustvisit.
Number one on our list, simply because it is so easy to get to is The Kopje. The Kopje is a central spot in Harare and is easily accessible by car, or even on foot if you are keen. If you are staying in Harare or simply passing through, this short trip will be worth it. What’s great is you can drive up most of the hill, take a short walk from the parking lot, and BOOM! You will be welcomed by the best panoramic view of Harare from the city center. You may not linger there long, but it is a beautiful space you should check out. Take the kids, venture on your own- suit yourself.
Chapungu Sculpture Park
You may or may not know it, but Zimbabwe has a very rich history of sculpting stone. It’s true, as far back as great Zimbabwe, there is proof of Zimbabweans creating beautiful ornaments out of stone and gold. Zimbabwe itself is very rich in various types of stone that make for the most beautiful artefacts.
Next up on our list is Chapungu Sculpture Park. Just 20 minutes out of the city center, you will find this open space and all the wonder it has to share. Prepare yourself to be wowed by what some of Zimbabwe’s artisans have to offer in this skill passed down through generations. Sculptures vary in size and can be bigger than adults, or small enough to fit in the palm of a child’s hand. Chapungu is open all year round and can be visited by anyone, free of charge.
Last but not least, within the city perimeter lies Mukuvisi Woodlands. An inner city wildlife reserve which will make you forget the hustle and bustle. If you love the city but also like to get away for the day without the hassle of traveling too far, this one is definitely for you. Right here, in the city, you can experience giraffe, impala, eland, sable, zebra and many more lovely wildlife creatures. Grab a book, your binoculars and some eats and relax.
