Soweto theatre and Poetic Thursdays have come together to form the 2k Challenge - a  one day competition that will see some of Joburg's favourite live performers ranging from rappers ,choirs ,bands, comedians and poets giving their best performances to make sure they walk away with the R2000 prize money. 

Since the creation of the competition, hundreds of clips have been sent to be considered for audition proving how much talent there is and how hungry and ready the general artist is for the exposure ,affirmation and also most importantly the cash injection.

 "The idea came about as this month’s freedom day was without a concert and since we are always inundated with people trying to either perform at Poetic Thursdays or at Soweto theatre," says Kgotso Motaung. "So we thought of this as the perfect opportunity for anyone to submit and if they are good enough there's more they get to perform in front of a critical audience and the stakes are high.

"This will inevitably challenge everyone to bring their best performance on the day as they try to outdo every other contestant and this will surely make for a pleasant experience for the audience to experience the shortlist and the quality of the performances"

The show takes place on the 27 April beginning at 1pm at Soweto Theatres and tickets are available on the Soweto theatre website for R20 and R40 at the door.

‘We wanted to unearth talent and be responsible for providing a platform for the local artists but also to make it as interesting as possible for everyone.’ Says Kgotso Motaung producer of the show.
