My Joburg Special: Andile Ncube

By Joburg Post

Q: What  is your favourite hangout spot in Joburg and why?

A: I enjoy the occasional visit to the many hotel roofs like Sandton deck or Hyde park, there's a gathering of the continent for a good time and good conversations but mostly I prefer the serenity of my home.

Q: What are your favourite things to do in Joburg ?

A: I love partying in Joburg as much as I do  business here; and if you gonna party, there's a reason Taboo (where you learn about street smarts and can bump into anyone) has been open for 14yrs

Q:  Who are two most favourite Joburg residents for you  and why?

A: I don't really have that many.

Q:  What’s your earliest memory of the city?

A: Funny enough my memories are always the trips I made as a kid going in and out of Jsec, the excitement of going back home to KZN and seeing the city behind me as the taxi drove away and the lights that ushered me back and spoke to me about hope of a bright future

Q:  What’s your favourite iconic feature about the city ?

A: It has to be Bree and Noord street, the energy all day is indubitable but also, the whole of Africa in a space of a couple of meters all chasing a dream. I also like that it doesn't matter where you going it's where you'll find your taxi home.  Also worth mentioning is Ponte, the building is for me, is what "Liberty" is to America and quintessentially Joburg. And Vilakazi, the street epitomizes of the South African story and history

Q:  What makes the city special for you ?.

A: What London and Paris are to Europe and New York is to America, this city is to Africa. It doesn't matter where you're from or who your parents are, here you can make a name for yourself.

Q: What is  a must do and see in the Joburg?

A: The multi cultural food markets on Sundays are a great taste of the city and the nightlife is big city big

Q:  What’s the most underrated place in the city ? Your hidden gem.

A: If you have kids, visit a little place called "Goodies" in Kempton Park or up the road from there "Spoil day spa", you'll thank me later
