My Joburg Special: Azania Mosaka

By Joburg Post

Q: What  is your favourite hangout spot in Joburg and why?

A: My favourite hangout spot in Joburg is any space with a good view. We live in a fantastic city and places like The MESH lounge and club or The CODFather. Vuyo's in Soweto is also amazing, the rooftop allows you to see Soweto like nowhere else.

Q: What are your favourite things to do in Joburg ?

A: I love to shop in Joburg cause it's my city and I kind of know it inside out. For example, Melville has many startups away from all the malls, there's also Rich Factory in Parkhurst and others like that. And when I love an item, I will go there.

Q:  Who are two most favourite Joburg residents for you  and why?

A: James Ncobo, the director of the market theatre. He takes care of something that feeds the soul. He also loves food and art. He's a global local citizen. And he has stories for days.

Another person would be Victor Dlamini, a multitalented individual who is now a photographer with his own studio on Constitution Hill.

I'm going to cheat just a little, but I can't not mention Maria McCloy. She makes the most amazing shoes and accessories that she sells at Art on Main. She makes being African an everyday thing, and not just something for heritage day. She still lives in Yeoville and has been through all its different developments for a long time.

Q:  What’s your earliest memory of the city?

A: My earliest memory of the city was getting on the taxi with my sister as a kid. We used to go to the library and we'd get a treat like slap chips when we were done. Of course this is where I developed my love for reading as well. I remember feeling as if though the stairs in front of the Johannesburg library were so many, but now you see the difference between the view of a child and that of an adult.

Q:  What’s your favourite iconic feature about the city ?

A: It has to be the Market Theatre. I remember there used to be The Kippies Jazz Club near it, and we used to feel so cool hanging out there.

Q:  What makes the city special for you ?.

A: I am born and bread in Joburg, It's mine, I have ownership and don't have to try too hard to love it. It is both hard and gracious,.

Q:  What’s your favourite iconic feature about the city ?

A: You must do the Hop-on-hop-off bus. I thought it would be lousy, but it's amazing. There are so many things to discover in the city. It brings everything into perspective.

Q: What is  a must do and see in the Joburg?

A: The Rachawadee Thai Spa in Houghton is one of the most sensual experiences I've ever had. In my opinion, it's the best spa in the world.
